Dr. Juan Pablo Gomez is a highly respected physician who has been serving the McAllen, TX community with distinction since 2004. With over two decades of experience in the medical field, Dr. Gomez specializes in Pulmonology, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, bringing a wealth of knowledge and dedication to his patients and colleagues.
Dr. Gomez earned his medical degree in 1995 from the prestigious Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, where he laid the foundation for his commitment to advancing healthcare. He relocated to the United States to pursue further medical training, completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital (UM/JMH) from 1997 to 2000. Recognizing his passion for complex medical care, he went on to complete competitive fellowships in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Disorders Medicine at both UM/JMH and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida, culminating in 2004. Following the completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Gomez relocated to McAllen, Texas.
In 2008, Dr. Gomez co-founded Valley Intensivists, Pulmonologists, and Sleep Specialists (VIPS), a prominent medical group dedicated to providing exceptional care to patients across the Rio Grande Valley. VIPS has established a strong presence in the region, with Dr. Gomez and his team managing patient care at multiple hospitals, including South Texas Health Systems, Mission Regional Medical Center, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, and Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
Currently, Dr. Gomez serves as the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at RGRH, where he oversees critical care services, ensuring the highest standards of care for patients in life threatening conditions. His dedication to education is evident through his role as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the UTRGV Internal Medicine residency program, a position he assumed in 2024 to mentor the next generation of physicians.
In October 2024, Dr. Gomez was further recognized for his contributions to the medical community when he was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Rio Grande Regional Hospital. This prestigious role reflects his commitment to shaping the future of healthcare in the region and his reputation as a leader in the field.
